Burr Oaks

There are three (3) Geocaches located within the boundaries of the Burr Oaks Nature Preserve.  Two of them are located in the main park area, along the trails coming off of the Nature Center.  The other one is located in the part of the park located to the north of Pink Hill Road.  With all three geocaches only working out to around 2.5 miles total distance, I thought it reasonable to put them together for a single afternoon ... provided we can get started around one or two o'clock in the afternoon.

The first leg would be the two inside the main park.  The estimated distance to pick up both of these, provided you trek in and then come back out the way you went in, is around 1.2 miles.  This one is recommended first in the event that we may want to stop and visit the Nature Center.

The second leg is based off of the parking area on the far north end, off of Strode Road.  From there, the trek calculated out to around 1.2 miles again, walking in and coming back out the way we went in.  This one is off of an established path, so it will not be a good one to do if it has recently rained.

The question is WHEN.

Burr Oaks - The Praire (GC1XPTD)

Terrain Rating:  2  -  Difficulty: 1.5

A Family Friendly Cache in Burr Oak Woods

You are looking for a ammo box about 60 feet off of the path. I did find plenty of Poison Ivy right around the cache, so watch what you touch.

As you make your way through the restored prairie you will see what 30% of Missouri once looked like. You will find native warm season grasses such as Big Bluestem and Indian Grass. The prairie also contains wildflowers such as Blazing Star, Blackeyed Susan, Rattlesnake Master and Native Sunflowers.

Snail Rock (GC29M6N)

Terrain Rating:  2.5  -  Difficulty: 2.5

A great cache in any kind of weather. Directly off of a good path so not to much "Off Roading" required. The terrain gets a little rocky closer to the cache.

Elevation: 976 ft.

Natures beauty at its finest! This is a tough one not going to lie but just take you time and "Watch for holes in the rocks." The container is a green ammo box containing a bunch of fun items including a log book. Good luck and enjoy!'

Side note: when you get to the first split in the trail do not follow the arrow if you want this cache to be quicker. and if you go this way and get to the snail info board you have gone to far.

Its Really Pretty Here (GC35DT7)

Terrain Rating:  1.5  -  Difficulty: 1.5

This is a really pretty hiking area. We know this because the entire time we were hiking, Mr Buzz kept saying "It's really pretty here!" Mrs Buzz will have to take Mr Buzz's word for it since she was so busy trying to catch her breath and clutching her chest, she did not take the time to look around.

This cache is a mile round trip.

Please ignore Mrs Buzz's dramatics, It really is a pretty walk.

You are looking for an ammo can, stuffed full of goodies.
