This is the third in the fun guy series. Please note we spotted the following while placing this cache.
Beautiful wild flowers such as black eyed susans (ok really there were 2 fighting their way thru a huge patch of PI)
Giant horse flies ( but, I am sure they only bite horses).
Friendly mosquitoes (we know they are friendly because they kept nibbling on us).
Grasshoppers with big giant teeth (don’t worry their mouths are to small to bite you).
Long shiny funny colored sticks that stretch across the gravel path (we know they were sticks because, they didn’t jump up and run when we stepped over them).
We did not see one tick! (of course we haven’t really checked yet either)
With all the wonderful things we saw when placing this cache we know you will enjoy hunting for it. This is placed nicely a few feet just off the wide gravel path in Fleming park. You should park at the Larry Mattonen Memorial Trail head. I am sure everyone has that lovely trail on their maps. So no need to look at the parking coords.
Remember use stealth there were lots of muggles around disguised as cachers ( you know wearing hiking shoes, on a bike, looking closely at stuff). Replace the cache as you find it to give the next non-muggle the same experience.
Permission to place by Jackson county parks
There is a nice gravel parking lot at N 38*57.350’ W 094*18.926’. From there, head west for .21 miles down the gravel trail. At the cross trails, turn south and follow trail to geocache location. (You could also bushwhack directly to the cache location as well.)
The gravel trail is used daily by muggles walking their dogs and an occasional jogger. You could also bike or push a stroller on the trail; I would consider this to be very kid friendly. The cache could also be reached by boat with some bushwhacking in the summer months. The elevation changes on the trail are very minimal until the last 30 feet or so.
These Missouri woods in God’s beautiful creation are full of mature oaks, hickory, hackberry, white pine and many other species. The deer, squirrels, turkeys and songbirds are in abundance. There are numerous other geocaches and park amenities nearby, so bring a picnic and make a day of beautiful Fleming Park.
Caution: If you visit during the summer months, the mosquitoes and horse flies can be a real nuisance, so be prepared to have insect repellant. If you bushwhack, you will certainly encounter ticks.
The geocache a medium size ammo container. It is stocked with a Log Book and many cool treasures. Original contents are(2) Chinese finger traps, deck of cards, necklace, (2) small flashlights, bouncy ball, 4x4 monster truck, matchbox car, finger skateboard and (3) spent rifle cartridges.
A moderate walk that is fairly flat but gets into some rocky terrain.
The walk is quite easy until the last 100 feet, then becomes a little rocky. May not be accessible after heavy rain.
Please re-hide the container well so that it is not visible from the "path". Be sure to check out the bison enclosure located just a little ways south of the trail.
